Gboard could help you break the ice when you slide into the DMs. The feature is called "Conversation Starters" and it is still in development, but it is available to try if you enable the appropriate flags in Gboard's settings.
To use Conversation Starters, simply open Gboard and start a new message. Then, tap on the "Proofread" button (the one with the checkmark). A horizontally scrolling carousel of conversation starters will appear. You can choose any of these starters to send to the person you are DMing.
Gboard's AI will provide a question or a little information about the topic, so you can break the ice and start a conversation. For example, if you choose the "What's your favorite book?" conversation starter, Gboard will provide a question like "What's the last book you read that you really enjoyed?"
Conversation Starters can be a great way to start a conversation with someone you don't know very well. They are also a good way to keep a conversation going if it starts to lag. Just be sure to choose conversation starters that are appropriate for the situation and the person you are DMing.
